Why thin lines disappear in slicers
A 3MF can look correct in prepare view and still lose details after slicing. This happens because prepare view shows model geometry, while sliced preview shows printable extrusion paths. If a letter, border or diagonal stroke is narrower than the slicer's usable line width, the slicer may skip it, replace it with a partial path or merge it into a neighboring color.
This is common with image-based prints because images contain antialiasing, diagonal edges and tiny islands. The mesh may faithfully represent a pixel pattern, but a nozzle cannot always place plastic in every small region. The solution is usually to adjust the source image, final scale or slicer settings, not to blindly increase mesh resolution.

Prepare view
Shows imported geometry and material assignments. It is useful for checking orientation, dimensions and whether the colors arrived in the 3MF.
Sliced preview
Shows actual extrusion paths. This is where missing letters, incomplete borders and unprintable islands become visible.
Common causes
- The final object is too small for the text or icon detail.
- The source image has thin antialiased strokes that become sub-nozzle geometry.
- Diagonal strokes become stair-stepped into disconnected islands.
- Elephant-foot compensation removes or shifts very thin first-layer borders.
- The slicer treats a region as a gap because it cannot fit a wall or infill path.
- Color quantization creates tiny color fragments around edges or shadows.
Practical fixes
Resolution is not always the answer
Lowering mm per pixel creates more geometry, but it does not make the nozzle smaller. If the source detail is below printable width, higher mesh resolution can actually make the slicer work harder while producing the same missing line. Use high resolution for clean curves and large prints, but use thicker artwork for tiny letters and borders.
Check the sliced preview layer by layer. If a line exists in prepare view but disappears in sliced preview, the problem is usually slicer printability. If it is missing before slicing, the problem is source image cleanup, quantization or transparent cutout handling.
Best source artwork for small text
Use high contrast and bold shapes. Avoid light gray outlines, drop shadows and compressed JPEG artifacts. For badges and keychains, it is often better to redraw tiny text as a thicker vector shape or remove it entirely. Text that is readable on a monitor may be impossible to print at the same physical size.
